My Computer collection

8 bit computers and some more!

During the last years the number of old computers in my collection has grown. It all started with the KIM-1 and the MSX computers like Toshiba HX-10, Spectravideo SVI.738 and the NMS8280. Followed by the usual PC's based on 8088 (DEC Rainbow), 80386 (unnamed clone) and on to modern Intel and AMD based machines.

Theme of the collection

The acquistion of machines I have is based on some informal rules:

6502 SBC

Since my first personal computer is a KIM-1 SBC I have always liked singleboard computers based on the 6502. Some wellknown like the SYM-1, AIM-65 and the Ohio Scientific, and also european lesser known variants such as the Elektuur Junior, the Elektuur/Elektor/KIM Gebruikers Club DOS65 and the Proton.

6502 based

The 6502 based machines were controlling the market in the eighties of the previous century. Apple II and IIGS, Commodore in many variants, Atari, Acorn Atom, Electron and BBC and the not so known Oric.

Z80

Z80 based machines are more business oriented with CP/M as operating system. The Bondwell 12 and the Philips P2000 machines represent that, the Sinclair and MSX collection shows that the Z80 is also a good base for a game computer. The Microprofessor and the Z80 development system show the possibilities of the Z80 as SBC.

Other

Digital Equipment made some fine small machines, like the DEC Rainbow, the PRO/350 and the VAXmate. As did Tandy and Texas Instruments.
The slide rules are the handheld computers/calculators when the IC technology was not developed enough for cheap calculators. I used those rules at school and university until I found a DEC PDP-11 in a lab to replace it!
